Choosing A Suit

When choosing a suit I always go with what I love and makes me feel beautiful. It’s all about how you feel! It’s also super important to make sure you get a suit that’s properly fitted. We work so hard to have our physiques on point, we want a bangin’ suit to show it off! You don’t have to spend a lot of money. My first suit I ever wore was very plain and over time I’ve picked suits with more bling (which I absolutely love)!

Heels And Accessories

I’m very specific about my competition heels. I get heels that have no ankle straps and a narrow toe. I’ve found them to be most comfortable for me because I have narrow feet. I always suggest trying to go somewhere that you can try shoes on before you buy. That way you can ensure proper fit.

Off-season

I believe off-season is different for everyone. For me, I like to eat clean and train year round. Nutrition and fitness combined truly make me feel great, so I don’t change too much throughout the year. Competition or not, I love feeling fabulous!

Professional Photo Shoots

I’m so excited to share that I booked my very first legit photo shoot with Michael Brooks for the Rancho Cordova show. I’ve never actually had a set photo shoot, so I’m thrilled to have this experience. Why not document our journey? So far I’ve picked out my outfits and it’s been such a fun experience so far! Can’t wait for the shoot.

Anything Else You Would Like To Add?

I’m absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to share my experience about competing with the IPL. It’s truly my passion. I feel it’s a sport that we can always improve at and truly express ourselves. I love the constant challenge and community.

Choosing A Suit

I have my competition suits custom made by an international designer. It costs a little more, but it insures I will wear a unique design that is made just for me!

Heels And Accessories

I love bling, so I always wear a large rhinestone bracelet on each arm, one ring, large rhinestone earrings and of course rhinestones on the shoes!

Off-season

For me, there is no such thing as an off-season. What I have done is an overall lifestyle change.

Professional Photo Shoots

I highly recommend signing up for one at your show. You are looking your best that day and you want to capture those moments! For the IPL, Michael Brooks offers these services and he is amazing, but make sure you sign up early!

Anything Else You Would Like To Add?

After my mother passed away last year from complications of diabetes, hypertension and kidney failure, I decided I needed to change my lifestyle if I wanted to be around to care for and raise my four-year-old daughter. I hired a nutritionist and personal trainer and got into beast mode.

I lost 30 pounds and I started competing in fitness contests and when other women saw my pictures, they would message me about how I inspired them to change their lifestyle as well. I am a single mother, work 24 hour shifts as an ER doctor, but took a no excuses approach to losing weight and becoming healthier.

After hearing how I inspired other women, I decided to start my own fitness company, “Fit and Fine in no Time.” I do online fitness coaching, have my own line of fat burners, protein shakes, an app and fitness equipment.

Choosing A Suit

Do your research. When buying a suit online, be sure to call and talk to the person who is making your suit. That way you can be sure it will fit your body perfectly on show day. Remember, your suit is important to your stage presence. A great suit will draw attention towards you, showcasing all of your hard work, training for the competition.

Heels And Accessories

The more bling, the better! I normally wear at least two bracelets. I wear a special sparkly skull ring that my mom gave me for good luck. I always keep at least one pair of extra earrings in my bag. I had a pair break one time, so having that extra set was a lifesaver for the night show. For your heels, be sure you buy them well in advance to have enough time to break them in and practice walking.

Off-season

Set off-season goals. What is an area you want to improve on? Do you want to start gaining more muscle mass? Do you still want to tone down? I, for the most part, eat the same on and off prep. The only difference is I allow myself a few “refuel meals.” I have an amazing group of friends and teammates who help keep me accountable in my off-season.

Professional Photo Shoots

I love doing photo shoots! The IPL partners with Michael Brooks Photography, and I book a one on one session with him after each competition. It is a fun way to showcase all of my hard work from prep.

Anything Else You Would Like To Add?

Everyone enters a Bikini competition for a different reason. Set goals for yourself early on in your training, and write them down. Whether your goal is to step out of your comfort zone and try something new, or you want to win. Establish those goals early on. That way when you are having a hard week, you can go back to those goals and remember why you started your fitness journey.

Choosing A Suit

When choosing a competition suit, I think it is important to find a designer that produces quality work. Suits can be overwhelming to a new competitor when looking at cost, however play an important role in your mental state once you make it to the stage.

From experience, I can say that my first few suits were made by a designer that was a little less expensive. I ultimately paid the price for going with a cheaper suit when I wore it to the National stage and the hardware broke. If that wasn’t bad enough, the glue that was used on another suit from that same designer did not hold the rhinestones, causing them to slide off entirely. Although I had only wore the suit twice to practice my posing, the designer was unwilling to fix it. I learned from that mistake, if budget allows, to always be prepared with a backup suit.

I did some research and found a local designer, Bilbo Baggs and saw a difference immediately in the hardware and fabrics used. A great designer like Norma and Randi at Bilbo Baggs will take time to establish the right cut for you and your body type. They are experienced with color, and while allowing you your opinion will also make suggestions so that you will look your best on stage. They are experts at knowing the body and how you tend to drop last minute body fat and or water weight, so that even those who are not local are guaranteed to have the right fit.

I guess the point I want to get across is your suit is the part of your competition on which you want to splurge. You worked so hard and feeling like a million bucks goes a long way on stage. When traveling to compete, I always carry it on with me to guarantee it never gets lost!

Heels And Accessories

When purchasing heels, it is important to walk in them to ensure proper fitting. I personally do not buy shoes online, because they tend to fit different and I need a secure fit that I can walk well in. I recommend selecting one that has a snug fitting. They all stretch out slightly, and I do not feel secure when I am constantly gripping to keep them tight. They may even feel a bit uncomfortable at first. By wearing them for a short time, they will mold to your foot.

Do not leave them in hot cars or stored in cold places. They can loosen up as well as stretch out. I do not loan shoes to others simply because the shape of their foot can stretch them out. Grace plays an important role in your presentation, and a first impression in shoes that don’t fit can throw off your game. If you happen to be one that doesn’t walk well in heels, I would get them early in the prep process so that you feel confident on that stage. Wear them around your house (your partner will love it) for a few minutes daily if needed.

As for accessories, I always design my suit first. This ensures that I can match the accessories. I like to have the stones on my suit to match the stones on my accessories, and I work hard to not over accessorize. I think the package is best when we focus on the body and leave the accessories to do just that; Accessorize! I do not want to take away from the body or the suit. I will not spend too much money on these, and I wear them multiple times.

Off-season

This subject is an interesting one. My personal philosophy is there is no off-season. Make the healthy active lifestyle exactly as it sounds—A LIFESTYLE. I am always looking at new ways to improve my physique. I will usually focus on an area I am working to improve, grow, or slim and do the necessary things to get there. This allows me a more enjoyable peak week, and I seem to have less cuts each time. This doesn’t mean I have it easy; I work hard all year long to have a less intense peak week.

Professional Photo shoots

I cannot express how important professional photoshoots are! For starters, they will only help your game on stage. You may be in the best shape of your life for the first time and for some even the last. Take advantage of your beauty and book it! We are so fortunate to have Michael Brooks at every IPL competition to offer this service, during, and sometimes a day before and after. On that note, I would personally make sure to have your makeup and hair professionally done for your competition as well as every professional photo shoot. You may be great at it yourself, but the professionals know the stage lighting, how to match your competition tans as well and what the camera needs. This is why they are the professionals. I personally own a salon, and I still hire an artist to do my makeup and hair. I use Chanel Molleo Beauty whenever possible because she knows my face best. Loving your makeup and hair also helps your confidence on stage.

Anything Else You Would Like To Add?

In closing, I am honored to be featured as one of the top Bikini Competitors in the IPL, and I hope my tips have been helpful. Ladies, do not skimp on the Competition Bikini, Make Up, Hair or Spray Tan. The IPL does a great job ensuring great sponsoring companies to handle these topics for you. They are so crucial to a successful day, and feeling like the amazing person you are only benefits you in the long run! You worked so hard to get to this point, so own it!
